Ontario online casino rules in figures
The casino at 900 King Street is a building a person walks into, with a door, a floor and an ID check at 19. Online play in Ontario runs on its own figures, and this page sets them out.

01Since April 4, 2022
Ontario's regulated online gaming market opened on April 4, 2022. iGaming Ontario conducts and manages online gaming through private operators. The Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario, the AGCO, regulates it.
A private operator is legal only when two conditions are met. It needs registration with the AGCO. It also needs an operating agreement with iGaming Ontario, and one without the other is not enough. OLG.ca is different: it is the government's own site.
Every player has two rules to meet. Online casino play is for people 19 or older, the same age the Gaming Control Act, 1992 sets for entering a casino. The player must also be physically in Ontario while playing.
02Checking a site before play
iGaming Ontario keeps the official directory of regulated sites at igamingontario.ca. A site on that list shows two logos, iGaming Ontario and BetGuard. A reader can compare a site's name against that directory.
A private online casino that does not appear in the directory is not a legal operator in Ontario. It carries none of the province's player protections. BetGuard does not block it, and neither does My PlayBreak, so a self-exclusion set up in Ontario will not reach it.
03BetGuard and its four terms
BetGuard, at betguard.ca, is run by iGaming Ontario. One opt-out covers every regulated online gaming site in the province, OLG.ca included. The terms are 6 months, 1 year, 5 years or a custom term.
Land-based casinos sit outside it, including the one at 900 King Street. For casinos, OLG's My PlayBreak program applies, with terms of 3 or 6 months, or 1 to 5 years. A casino break bars entry to every Ontario casino. Enrolment runs through the OLG Support Centre at 1-800-387-0098, staff on site or a PlaySmart Centre.
04The Ad links on this site
Figure Ground carries three paid links, all on the home page and all marked Ad. They are a button in the header, a block just below the first screen and a block near the end of the page. Each leads to the same private online casino partner. That partner pays Figure Ground a commission and can change. It has no connection with the casino at 900 King Street, and Figure Ground takes no bets and holds no accounts.
QQuestions and answers
- Q1How old must an online player be in Ontario?
- A player must be 19 or older. That matches the casino rule under the Gaming Control Act, 1992, which bars anyone under 19 from entering or staying in a casino.
- Q2Does it matter where the player is standing?
- Regulated sites are only for people who are physically in Ontario, so a player's location matters as much as age.
- Q3Where is the official list of regulated sites?
- iGaming Ontario keeps the official directory at igamingontario.ca. Sites on it show the iGaming Ontario and BetGuard logos.
- Q4Does BetGuard keep someone out of the casino?
- No, BetGuard covers regulated online gaming sites only, OLG.ca included. It does not cover land-based casinos such as the one at 900 King Street. OLG's My PlayBreak program handles casino breaks.
